A quick photo-opp at the start of the day in front of the display boards - Graham (on the floor) proves he can still fit through the squeeze boxSaturday 14th April, 2012

Six team members went to the Coventry Go Outdoors store on the 14th April to raise awareness of Mountain and Cave Rescue and to help 'run' the climbing wall for the day.

We also took the opportunity to put on a display of photographs and kit, including a stretcher, ropes and a laptop and projector to provide a continuous presentation of MCRO activities and information.

The "Squeeze box" was borrowed from Dudley Caving Club and proved a big hit with children wriggling through it on the lowest setting while their parents were unable to even fit in at it's highest setting! (The Squeeze box is two wooden panels held apart with various wooden spacers - see the picture above)

Testing the climbing wall before the store openedA photo-finish!

The store's climbing wall proved very popular with people of all ages - at one point there were 3 generations of one family all racing to be the first to the top (Grandpa won!).

During the quieter moments in the day (in between checking out the in-store offers!), team members were able to practice their own climbing skills.

Thanks

A very enjoyable day for everyone involved and we had some nice feedback from the store customers.

A big thank you to the staff at Coventry Go Outdoors for making us so welcome and giving us the opportunity to raise our profile in the store.

A special thank you to GO Outdoors for their National fund raising campaign on behalf of Mountain Rescue England and Wales.
